P E R L M U T T P R O D U C T I O N S was founded in 2011 to develop and produce evocative and visually compelling narrative films, documentaries, commercials, and branded content.

Founder Bent-Jorgen (B.J.) Perlmutt is a writer, director, producer, and lecturer at Princeton University. His film credits include Netflix’s MASSACRE AT THE STADIUM (nominated for a 2020 Emmy® Award), INVISIBLE KILLERS: EBOLA (Discovery Channel, 2018), HAVANA MOTOR CLUB (Samuel Goldwyn Films, 2016), DIANA VREELAND: THE EYE HAS TO TRAVEL (Samuel Goldwyn Films, 2011), MAN V. VOLCANO (National Geographic, 2011), VALENTINO: THE LAST EMPEROR (Acolyte Films, 2008), LUMO (winner of a 2007 Student Academy Award®), LES VULNERABLES (Closing Night Short of the 2007 New York Film Festival), and CONTROL ROOM (Magnolia Pictures, 2004).

Perlmutt has served as a correspondent for UNICEF and has made films for NGOs including The Chopra Center, HelpAge International, UNIFEM, the New York Academy of Medicine, Every Mother Counts, and HEAL Africa. His commercial and branded content work has included directing, producing, and/or editing over 30 films for Estée Lauder, Goldman Sachs, Amazon Publishing, Gucci, Bvlgari, Rag&Bone, Samsung, Oprah Magazine, Vogue, Chloé, Tods, Jimmy Choo, Kohl’s Carrera, San Pellegrino, Guess Jeans, and L’Oréal. He is a member of the Director’s Guild of America, the National Board of Review of Motion Pictures, one of Filmmaker Magazine's "25 New Faces of Indie Film,” a juror for the News and Documentary Emmy® Awards, and a recipient of two Sundance Institute grants.

Perlmutt has taught at Columbia University, William Paterson University, and all over Africa for organizations including Mira Nair’s MAISHA FILMLAB and Peter Gabriel’s WITNESS. He holds a BA from Brown University with honors in Creative Writing, an MFA from Columbia University with honors in Film Directing, and recently completed the Wharton Princeton Entrepreneurship Executive Education Program. He currently resides in Brooklyn, NY with his partner Sarah Canner and their daughter Zofia.
